Besides the well-known destinations such as Rome, Florence and Venice, Italy offers a wide array of places to visit that are not common at all. One could label them as "unusual destinations", where it is possible to enjoy a beautiful holiday far from the crowd of the city.

The Italian daily Corriere della Sera has identified some. Let us start with Ferrovia Vigezzina (Piedmont). Located on Alps, it connects Domodossola to Locarno. During the trip, travellers can enjoy the beautiful scenarios characterized waterfalls, woods and suggestive bridges. Visitors can also stop in the small villages in the Vigezzo Valley.

In Lazio, Montefiascone stands as a jewel of medieval Italy, hosting the majestic cathedral of Saint Margaret (among the biggest in the country) and an excellent wine production, all framed within small lanes.

Up in Tuscany, Bagno Vignoni is an open-air thermal pool. The largest warm water pool coming from Mount Amiata is located on the main square of the village, where visitors can enjoy characteristic restaurants, thermal baths and the appealing Mills Valley. Moreover, in the same region, San Miniato can be considered as a fairy tales location to be visited. The ancient hamlet up on the hill hosts the Citadel of Frederic II and the production of an exquisite white truffle.

Finally, in Emilia Romagna, two destinations are not to miss. Firstly, the Reggia di Colorno, also known as the "small Versailles", counting 400 halls, several internal courts and an elegant garden in French style. It also has an astronomic Observatory and the neo-classic Chapel of Saint Liborio. Secondly, Argenta whose name might come from the Latin arx cinta, literally "encircled by walls", or from the word argentea recalling the colour of the waters that used to surround it in the past. The place can be considered as an eco-museum system, where one should not miss the Argenta Valleys Museum, the Po Delta Regional Park and the Reclamation Museum.
