Discovering TRENDZ’s New Dayz

Havit, Leon, Yoonwoo, Hankook, Ra.L, Eunil, and Yechan. Simply, TRENDZ.

The group, which entered the K-pop universe in January 2022, is now dreaming bigger than ever with the release of their second single album, “Blue Set Chapter: New Dayz”.

With New Dayzz, TRENDZ, which represents trends and innovation, are seeking to show more sides of their characters, their strong vocals, and acting skills.

The album, released on March 14th, includes two tracks, Nightmare and Fantasy, other than the title track New Dayz. While the main track brings back strong references to the punk-pop world, Nightmare shows TRENDZ’s powerful lyrics on a dark R&B pop beat. Last but not least, Fantasy perfectly portrays the boys’ new concept and their innovative concept.

Panorama.it interviewed them.

Hi boys, nice to meet you. Can you please introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello! It's an honor to greet you for the first time. We are TRENDZ who debuted in January last year.

We're back with a new song called "NEW DAYZ," and we're working hard.

Should we each introduce ourselves individually?

Havit: Hello~~ I am Havit, the eternal eldest brother in charge of happiness and smile with TRENDZ!! Contrary to what it looks like, I am in charge of husky vocals!!

Leon: Hello, I'm LEON, the main dancer of TRENDZ, who returned full of bright energy!

Yunwoo: Hello, I am Yunwoo, who has a sexy visual and long physical in TRENDZ.

Hankook: I'm the cool guy on the team!!! I'm the visual leader, Hankook!

Ra.L: Hello, I'm Ra.L, the charming and loving rapper of TRENDZ!

Eunil: I'm Eunil, the main vocalist and visual of TRENDZ.

Yechan: Hello. I'm Yechan, the youngest member who wants to be a perfect 6-angled person (metaphor meaning a versatile person)

Let’s start with your music. Blue Set Chapter: New Dayz is your last work. How would you describe it?

Eunil: We, TRENDZ, just returned with our second single album, BLUE SET CHAPTER. NEW DAYZ. There are three songs in the album: Nightmare, NEW DAYZ, and Fantasy!

All three songs have different charms, so make sure to listen to them, please!!

We have three songs in it. Can we analyze them together, starting with the title, New Dayz? What does this song mean to you?

Ra.L: The title song, NEW DAYZ, is a punk pop song with rhythmical guitar sounds that tell the story of waking up in the dark and escaping from the imaginary space alone. It would be great if you could pay attention to the message saying that we're looking forward to seeing everyone again beyond the end of this dream!

Eunil: And "NEW DAYZ" is a new challenge for us. Until now, we've shown charisma and strong performances. But with this new title song, we expressed the funkiness of TRENDZ with a bright and free feeling, so please look forward to it a lot!!🙂

Hankook: The first track, Nightmare, is a dark R&B pop song that combines dreamy sounds and strong beats, expressing the greater fear and unknown feeling with dark clouds like a "nightmare"! And a lot of people are talking about my part as being the killing part of Nightmare. While preparing for the recording, I thought a lot about it, so I'm so happy you like it so much!!

Yechan: The last track, Fantasy, is a song with impressive beats that vary depending on the flow. It is a song about the determination to save friends who escaped the imaginary space alone but are still trapped there! It's a song that I put a lot of thought into when I made the intro. I let producer Liz listen to several versions I made of the song before the final version, so it's a more meaningful song for me!

We have Nightmare and Fantasy. Two opposite themes... How did you choose them?

Ra.L: BLUE SET Chapter. NEW DAYZ album is the last story of the BLUE SET saga that we've been following since our debut! We tried to show you as many different images as possible that we haven't been able to show you until now. Producer Liz, who worked on the last album, has filled the album with songs that can show the charm of TRENDZ better, as well as show a side of us that we have not been able to show so far.

In New Dayz MV, you are also actors. Which was the main challenge in acting?

LEON: In my case, it was my first time acting! I think it was more unfamiliar and difficult because I had to express the story with facial expressions and actions without any dialogue. And in the final scene, I had to avoid working with the supporting cast members and shoot everything by myself, but it was difficult to organize the movement so that it could be captured well by the camera.

The MV story talks about teenagers suffering from school violence and waiting for the day they can break out of it. Do you have any suggestions for readers/listeners that might be having a hard time?

Yunwoo: In fact, if you don't become the person involved, you won't be able to understand 100% of the difficulties, so I'm cautious about conveying words of comfort. However, I hope you don't endure and handle the hard time alone. And in those moments, I hope that TRENDZ's songs can give you a small break.

You were also involved in writing your songs. How was the process behind it?

Ra.L: When we first received the song "NEW DAY", our rap part didn't have a guide (lyrics already written) , unlike the last album. I thought that the writer Liz sent it that way so that we could express our music more freely! It was a song that was different from the style we've shown so far, so I felt a little burdened and worried when I wrote the lyrics, but I decided to write the lyrics in a free way because it's different from the songs I've shown you.

Yechan: While writing the lyrics, there were many difficult parts, but we collaborated with Ra.L and Hankook!! We shared the parts that we wrote to each other and gave each other strength and inspiration.

If you could describe yourself with only one adjective which would it be?

Havit: It's 'shiny'! It is said that the light reflects and shines and I cannot shine alone. So thanks to the love I receive from FRIENDZ, I am a star that shines by reflecting that love.

Leon: It is 'ecstatic'. I chose this word because I thought I would be really dazzling and cool while performing on stage.

Yunwoo: ‘considerate’. I want to express it like this because I am very kind to people and try to treat people warmly with a wide tolerance.

Hankook: ‘blue’. The reason is that I am a person who has a deep heart like the blue sea and is like a wave gently lapping in the warm wind, so I expressed it as blue!

Ra.L: It is ‘hot’. I'm the passionate rapper of TRENDZ. I'll continue to burn it up with passion and make you hot.

Eunil: ‘clear’. My personality is like that, and I think I always have a clear and definite feeling! Also for my face (he laughs)

Yechan: I am ‘refreshing’! When you hear the word ‘refreshing’, it reminds you of a bright and free atmosphere. I am also energetic, so everyone always feels positive and bright no matter what I do. I feel that’s refreshing.

Do you have any role models in the industry?

Havit: BTS are definitely our role models!! Since we've done cover videos of BTS' songs before our debut, they are senior artists that we really respect and like. We want to be artists who can pull off various genres like BTS!

Ra.L: And SEVENTEEN is also our role model for TRENDZ~ I think that SEVENTEEN members have distinct colors in both the musical and performance parts, so we want to grow into a group that is irreplaceable in all areas and can produce everything on its own!

I have one last question; what’s next for you?

Hankook: First of all, we want to finish NEW DAYZ activities successfully and quickly meet our FRIENDZ around the world! There is no specific schedule yet, but it must be in 2023!! We are working hard to meet FRIENDZ around the world, so please look forward to it and wait!

Eunil: And we really want to meet Panorama subscribers who are reading the interview right now, so we want to go to Italy as soon as possible!!
