Yves’s new era

Yves’s new era

Yves is one of the most promising artists in the contemporary K-pop scene. After achieving success with the group LOONA, she decided to embark on a solo career, expressing her musical and personal vision in an entirely new way. Her first EP, LOOP, released in 2023, marked the beginning of this new chapter, followed by her second album, I Did, in 2024. The album received widespread acclaim for its emotional depth and innovative approach to music and visuals.

Born Ha Soo-young, Yves was a member of LOONA, a group that gained international fame for its originality and unique concept. In 2017, Yves debuted as part of the LOONA subunit yyxy, standing out for her vocal talent and on-stage energy. Her career within the group contributed to the growth of K-pop, and now, as a solo artist, Yves is solidifying her artistic identity.

During her first European solo tour, Yves made a stop in Rome, where she received an extraordinary welcome from her Italian fans. The concert, characterized by an intimate and captivating performance, highlighted Yves' ability to create a strong connection with her audience, resulting in a truly unique and special atmosphere.

Panorama.it had the chance to speak with her.

How would you introduce yourself to those who might be getting to know you for the first time?
Hi! I'm Yves, and I'm back with my second EP, I Did! After LOOP, this is my second album of the year, and now I'm also preparing for my first solo tour. I hope you continue to follow me with affection!

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t had the chance to hear it yet?
My music aims to create a sense of space. I want to combine music and visuals to offer something that can satisfy both the ears and the eyes of the listener.

Your latest album has received a lot of love from fans. Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind it and what message you hoped to convey?
The album I Did was inspired by the emotions I encountered while searching for inner peace. It reflects a part of my inner world, which may or may not be real.

Is there a particular song from the album that holds special meaning for you? What makes it stand out?
For me, the most special song is DIM, the final outro of the album. Since the album's message revolves around emotions encountered while seeking peace, listening to the tracks in order, you feel fluctuating emotions. However, DIM brings everything to calm and creates a sense of tranquility.

How has your musical style or perspective evolved over time, especially with this latest release?
In terms of perspective, I used to worry, thinking, “Can I really do this?” Now, I let myself think, “This seems fun!” Stylistically, I’ve abandoned self-imposed limits, allowing myself to work in a more varied and creative way.

When you first envisioned this album, did you have any specific concepts or themes in mind that you wanted to explore?
When I started working on the project, I wanted to maintain the honest approach I had during my solo debut: making music while having fun and singing my emotions sincerely. The producer, thinking of me, said he was reminded of the violet flower, and that’s where everything began.

You’ve had the opportunity to perform songs from the album in various cities. How does it feel to see fans connect with your music live?
While on stage, I always notice the audience’s reactions: from their eyes, I can tell if they’re enjoying themselves or feeling uncertain. However, my fans always look at me with love and support, and I’m truly grateful. I hope my concerts during this tour can be a moment for us to enjoy together.

This is your first time touring Europe as a solo artist! What were your expectations before coming here, and has anything surprised you?
Since this is my first solo tour, all the performances are new. I feel a bit nervous but also excited because I’m curious to see how the audience will react to my songs.

Can you tell us about the process of preparing for a tour like this? Is there anything different when it comes to performing in Europe compared to other regions?
Preparing for a solo tour was challenging: creating a setlist that keeps the energy high for over an hour wasn’t easy. It also required working on new covers and arrangements. Being in Europe is special—it reminds me of how much love we received during group concerts.

Rome is one of the stops on this tour, and it’s such a historic and vibrant city. What does it mean to you to perform there?
I love watching videos about ancient civilizations and history, so being able to share my music in a place so rich in history is incredible. I’m deeply grateful to my Italian fans for their support.

How have you found the Italian fans, and were there any unique ways they showed their support for you in Rome?
When I met Italian fans during a fan-signing event, I noticed how diverse they were: people of all ages showing me love. It’s amazing to feel this affection despite the language barrier. I’m excited to perform for them live.

The energy of live performances is often shaped by the audience. How would you describe the atmosphere at your concerts here in Europe?
European fans are so energetic and always support me with loving eyes. This gives me the energy to give my best on stage.

Did the tour experience inspire any new ideas for your future music or performances?
The tour has given me a lot of confidence. Knowing there are people around the world who love and appreciate my music motivates me to keep improving.

As your European tour comes to a close, what message would you like to share with the fans who came out to support you?
Even though there were moments of uncertainty, I’ve created precious memories that are priceless. I’ll carry all the energy I’ve received to create even more extraordinary music in the future. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
